UP’s EV vision: How Uttar Pradesh is building a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem

Thedeshpost.com – The shift to electric vehicles represents more than just a technological change in transportation—it marks a significant transformation in the region’s mobility landscape. In response, the Uttar Pradesh government launched the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, 2022, with the goal of establishing the state as a central hub for electric mobility, EV production, battery manufacturing, charging infrastructure, and eco-friendly transportation.

Zmírnění nákladů na nákup

To promote electric vehicle adoption, the policy includes complete exemption from road tax and registration fees for eligible EVs acquired and registered in Uttar Pradesh during the policy’s validity. Additionally, financial incentives are provided for EV purchases across different vehicle categories. For instance, electric two-wheelers receive a 15% subsidy of the ex-factory price, up to Rs 5,000. Electric three-wheelers can claim up to Rs 12,000, while electric four-wheelers are eligible for incentives of up to Rs 1 lakh. Electric buses and goods carriers each qualify for subsidies of up to Rs 20 lakh and Rs 1 lakh, respectively.

Zakládání infrastruktury

The policy prioritizes the development of charging and battery-swapping networks, as accessible infrastructure is critical for widespread EV use. Charging stations are eligible for a 20% capital subsidy, up to Rs 10 lakh per station, for the first 2,000 stations, provided the minimum investment is Rs 25 lakh. Similarly, battery-swapping stations receive a 20% subsidy, up to Rs 5 lakh per station, for the first 1,000 stations, with a minimum investment of Rs 15 lakh. The plan includes installing at least 20 charging stations and five battery-swapping stations in every district.

Výrobní revoluce

Uttar Pradesh aims to attract around Rs 50,000 crore in investments and create approximately one lakh indirect jobs through the EV sector. Integrated EV manufacturing projects with investments exceeding Rs 3,000 crore qualify for capital subsidies of up to 30%, with support of up to Rs 1,000 crore for the first two projects. Ultra-mega battery manufacturing initiatives, requiring at least Rs 1,500 crore and a minimum capacity of 1 GWh, also receive up to 30% subsidies. Mega EV projects investing Rs 500 crore or more are entitled to 20% subsidies, with up to Rs 500 crore allocated for the first five qualifying projects.

Podpora podnikání

The policy is designed to support small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) involved in EV components and battery supply chains, while also opening new markets for startups in mobility solutions, charging technology, and fleet services. By addressing these elements together, the state government seeks to build a cleaner, more sustainable, and future-oriented mobility ecosystem.
