During the summit, leaders also addressed the impact of geopolitical conflict on economies and communities. The New Delhi Declaration 2026, adopted on Saturday, voiced serious concern about growing tensions in West Asia and urged all sides to exercise maximum restraint.

Speaking on Sunday, Modi said that intensifying geopolitical strains were affecting ordinary people around the world. He called for stronger coordination within BRICS to respond to challenges confronting the Global South, a term commonly used for developing and emerging economies seeking a greater role in global decision-making.

The prime minister also cautioned against the “weaponisation of technology and critical minerals.” His remarks pointed to concerns that access to strategic technologies and essential mineral resources could be used in ways that disrupt cooperation and limit wider economic progress.

“Weaponisation of technology and critical minerals” could obstruct common advancement and prosperity, Modi said while outlining concerns before the summit.

Critical minerals are increasingly important to modern industry and emerging technologies, including manufacturing systems and energy-related supply chains.
